Tribe Drops Home Opener to North Carolina

Williamsburg, Va. - The William and Mary Tribe women’s gymnastics team opened up the home portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon at Kaplan Arena, falling to the North Carolina Tarheels, 193.325-188.550.

The Tribe opened the competition on the vault, recording a season-high team score of 47.750. Seniors Teenie Beck and Karla Bercaw led the Green and Gold in the event, with each scoring a 9.675. Junior Kristin Milardo also scored well, totaling a 9.575.

The College then moved on to the bars where freshman Jessica Pritchard led the Tribe to a team score of 45.275 with her individual total of 9.525. Classmate Katie Durst also performed well, scoring a 9.350, while Beck tallied a 9.150.

It was on to the beam next for William and Mary, where they would score a season-best 47.900. Beck led the Tribe, placing second overall with her score of 9.750. Also scoring well was Bercaw with a 9.625 and senior Melissa Cream with a 9.550.

In the final rotation of the afternoon, Beck once again led the Tribe, placing second overall on the floor with a score of 9.800. Bercaw had another solid performance for the College, posting a 9.625, while Pritchard tallied a 9.575.

In the all-around, Beck placed third with a total of 38.375, while Cream placed fifth with a score of 36.675.

The William and Mary Tribe women’s gymnastics team will return to action on Saturday, February 5 when it travels to take on Temple University.
