Former Tribe Hurler Chris Ray Signed by the Seattle Mariners
Seattle, Wash. - Former William and Mary pitcher Chris Ray was signed as a free agent by the Seattle Mariners late Tuesday evening. Ray was signed to a minor league deal, but was extended an invitation to the Major League Spring Training.
Last season, Ray split time between the two World Series participants – the Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants. In his 63 combined appearances, Ray posted a record of 5-0, posting an ERA of 3.72 in 55.2 innings pitched. For his career, Ray is 15-17 with 51 saves and 4.02 ERA in 248.1 innings pitched in five Major League seasons.
At William and Mary, Ray played three seasons for the Tribe before getting drafted in the third round of the 2003 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. For his career, Ray was 12-11 with an ERA of 3.54. Ray struck out 154 batters in 175.1 career innings pitched.
