W&M Women’s Golf Places Fourth at Tribe Invitational
Montpelier, Va. - The William and Mary Tribe women’s golf team finished fourth at the Tribe Invitational on Sunday afternoon, carding a second-round total of 310 (+26) to finish the tournament with a score of 617 (+49). Western Carolina captured the team title with a 36-hole total of 598 (+30).
Leading the way for the College at the Tribe Invitational was sophomore Betsy Birchall, who tied for third with a two-day score of 149 (+7). Birchall carded rounds of 73-76 to lead the Tribe at the Invitational. The top-five finish this weekend is her second on the season.
Senior Sarah Whitney played well for the College over the course of the past two days, shooting rounds of 76-79 to place in a tie for 15th with a final total of 155 (+13). Junior Kristen Hamel finished just three strokes behind Whitney, tying for 22nd with a 36-hole score of 158 (+16).
Junior Caroline Sweet cut nine strokes off her first round total to shoot a 76 (+5) on Sunday, finishing the tournament in a tie for 29th with a score of 161 (+19). Rounding out the Tribe’s effort at the Tribe Invitational was freshman Emily Gimpel, who tied for 31st with a two-round total of 162 (+20).
