Celine Alasomuka Named CAA Rookie of the Week
RICHMOND, VA - William and Mary freshman Celine Alasomuka (Centreville, Va.) was named the Rookie of the Week Monday by the Colonial Athletic Association, after an outstanding weekend of work for the Tribe volleyball team. She is the second W&M player honored this season, joining junior Lindsay Kresch (Moon Township, Pa.) who was the Offensive Player of the Week on September 20th.
Alasomuka averaged 6.38 digs per set in the Tribe's 1-1 road trip to Towson and Delaware, nearly double her season average coming into the weekend. Friday against Towson, she had a career-high 31 digs and tied her career-best with three aces in a 3-2 victory over the Tigers. The 31 digs are tied for 15th-most all-time at the College, and is the second-highest total ever posted by a freshman (Kathleen Hawley '06 had 38 against VCU in 2003). Saturday, she had another 20 digs in three sets against Delaware, tying her previous best.
Alasomuka and her teammates continue on the road this weekend, facing George Mason on Friday night, October 15th, at 7 p.m. before taking on James Madison Saturday also at 7 p.m.
