John Rich, Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach

John Rich was hired as the assistant speed, strength and conditioning coach in 2010. He will be primarily responsible for designing and implementing year round strength and conditioning programs for menís basketball, womenís basketball, volleyball, track and field and baseball position players. In addition, he will assist will all aspects of the Tribe football team.

He came to W&M from Southern Illinois University where he spent three years, two as a graduate assistant and one as a part-time assistant, in the strength and conditioning department. While at SIU, he was in charge of developing annual strength and conditioning programs for baseball, menís and womenís swimming and diving and menís tennis. He was also the first assistant to football and helped implement all aspects of their training.

Richís other notable professional experiences include interning at the Athletesí Performance Center in Tempe, Ariz., in the summer of 2007. He had the opportunity to train professional football and hockey players, as well as train collegiate baseball and football athletes at the Center.

Rich received his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in health promotion with a minor in integrative physiology. He completed his graduate degree from SIU in May 2010 in kinesiology. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) as well as a certified Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting (USAW).
