W&M's Brandon Heroux Bows in National Semifinals

GREENSBORO, N.C. - William and Mary javelin thrower Brandon Heroux (Westfield, N.J.) brought his season to a close Friday at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, finishing 15th in the eastern half of the national semifinals. The top-12 throwers, along with 12 from the western half, advanced to the NCAA Finals June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.

Heroux threw the javelin 214-2 (65.28m) for his place, besting his own record from last season for the best W&M throw at the NCAA Championships. It was also the eighth-best throw in school history since the javelin was redesigned in 1985, and gives him eight of the ten-best throws ever for the Tribe. This season alone, six of Heroux's seven throws rank in the top-11 in the College's history.

Still to compete this weekend in Greensboro, N.C., Eastern preliminary site for the NCAA Championships, are Tribe athletes in the 3,000m steeplechase quarterfinals and 5,000m semifinals. The steeplechase was originally schedule for 8:30 on Friday night, but severe thunderstorms around the stadium have pushed the tentative start time back to midnight.
